Atsumi Fashion has been making face masks out of the material it normally uses to line its bras, to help meet demand amid the coronavirus pandemic. Workers were seen busy producing the masks at the company’s factory in Toyama on Friday.
“Even now in Japan, there is a chronic shortage of masks, so at the beginning, we worked hard to give priority to those fields where people are really in need of masks, such as medical care, nursing care, and education,” explained the director of sales at Atsumi Fashion Kunihiro Hinata. He added that the brassiere cup material is light and comfortable to wear.
The tailors have already produced around 1,200 sets of facemasks online at a price of 1,080 yen ($10, €9) for a set of three face masks, said Hinata, explaining that the sets usually go out of stock within a few seconds of being uploaded to the site.
